Technology resource

Giving a legacy technology domain a useful reason to exist again.

ComputerComponent.ca is being rebuilt as a modern computer-hardware resource rather than preserving an old layout or treating the domain as a placeholder. The opportunity is to make the site genuinely useful around components, buying decisions and practical computer topics.

The challenge

Older informational domains often have name recognition but no current content strategy. Simply modernizing the CSS would not solve the bigger problem: visitors need a clear reason to browse, compare topics and come back.

How the project was approached

  • Reframed the site around practical component and computer-buying information.
  • Planned broader navigation and deeper topic pages instead of a single generic homepage.
  • Kept the visual system lightweight so content and comparisons can carry the site.
  • Created room for natural references to related resources without making the site a link collection.
  • Treated performance, accessibility and modern HTML structure as part of the rebuild from the beginning.

Resulting direction

The project direction creates a foundation for an evergreen technology resource that can grow through useful guides and comparisons. It also provides a different portfolio example from the transportation-heavy sites in the wider network.

Project lesson

A strong rebuild starts by deciding what the domain should be useful for now, not by preserving the purpose it happened to have years ago.
